Carl Sagan's Porsche at the University of Arizona

Here's something you probably won't see anywhere else. This is famous astronomer Carl Sagan's red Porsche Targa. I took this picture in the fall of 1977 while attending the University of Arizona. I was working at Steward Observatory and we kept seeing Dr. Sagan run to his Porsche, perhaps due to a tight schedule not having time to stop and chat with students. I just happen to have my trusty Minolta SRT 101 camera there that day and grabbed this shot ! Carl Sagan was so pestered by others he supposedly hired a body guard some years later ! This and the other image I shot are the only photos I know of his actual car !!

I snapped this photo at some point during the day from a building near the domes of Steward Observatory looking towards Dr. Sagan's car. If you look in the parking lot you can see his Porsche in this image. (Click on the above image to enlarge.)

Domes of the instruments at Steward Observatory on the University of Arizona Campus. The 21 inch reflector resides in the large dome on the left. Stewart Observatory has been active since the 1920's.

The dome of the 4 inch "James Refractor". This ia actually a 4 inch Alvin Clark Telescope!! I used the instument quite number of times and can attest the quality of the beautiful images viewed in this instrument!
