Astro Images by Dan McKeel

Friend and fellow member of the AAAP, - Daniel McKeel of Upper St Clair, PA sends very interesting imges to me from time to time. Many are quite beautiful. Recently I have only started posting Dans work on this site.

Dan uses a Cannon Digital Rebel, with a variety of instuments. A 12 inch Meade LX 200 is his latest "driving force". Dan has owned a number of telescopes over the years, including a 6 inch f-15 Jaegers Refractor. Take a look and enjoy....!

  • M42 - Final image with processing taken March 20, 2007. 12" LX200 Classic @ F6.3 Alt/Az mode tracking Unguided Stock Canon 300D 34 images of 25 seconds for 15 minutes of total exposure time Aligned and stacked in Imagesplus Pixel math, brightness scaling, and DDP in Imagesplus 5 sec exposure image layer mask applies in Photoshop to bring out the core stars. Curves applied in PS7. Unsharp mask applied.

  • In this picture the 4 stars of the famous Trapezium System - Theta Orionis are visible. they are identified as A,B,D, C going counterclockwise. A is variable between magnitudes 6.7 to 7.5. B is an eclipsing Binary varying betweeen about 8 to 8.5 magnitude. C is approx 5.1 mag. D is 6.7 magnitude. Other stars are part of this sytem known as E,F,G, H1 and H2 and I but require more magnification to be visible and hence not part of this image by Dan McKeel.
