The original "Allegheny Observatory". This photograph is dated 1886. The dome contained the Fitz 13 inch Refractor.
This image dates back many years ago between 1900 to about 1910 and is the only one I can find in the archieves with direct reference to a shop. It was labeled " Allegheny Observatory Shop" and "Large Planer." Note the massive array of an over-head pulley system, now gone.
Letter from Samel P. Langley, dated Jan 24, 1887. Dr Langley was then Director of Allegheny Observatory at its original location. Image was obtained courtsey of the Galley of History, Inc.
