Lunar X Oct 25 2009

Elusive phenomenon is imaged ! We managed to observe the Cross or "X" during later daylight several hours befor the sunset. The Lunar x occurrs when sunlight strikes the rims of various craters Caille, Blanchinus, and Purbach.
Under proper conditions the effect is quite interesting. Images were taken witha 10 inch F-12 refractor telescope.

  • The X can be seen in right hand side of this image. Oct 25, 2009 time 19:05 PM EDT. it is interesting to note that this picture was taken in a daytime sky, as sunset was 6:26 pm.
Thus images of the X are possible with astronomical telescopes late in the day!
