During Memorial Day Weekend , 2007 I stumbled accross this huge McDonald's Restaurant and Museum, located along Rt # 30 about 2 min. off the PA Turnpike near Irwin, PA. The place is fantastic, with at least a 2 story tall play room for children. I have to say this place is the biggest MacDonald's I ever saw. It was founded by Jim Deligatti who invented the Big Mac sandwich. Perhaps more correctly it is a "Big Mac" Museum.

Jim founded the Big Mac because he believed America was ready for a larger hamburger. He developed the 5 ingrediant "special sauce" which stands secret to this day. When the burger first came out McDonald's Officials felt it was too messy, so Jim added a "middle bun" to stabalize the burger. The rest is history !!! Al-Paslow > Here's an early poster of Jim Deligatti, now 89 who invented and served the first Big Mac to his customers in his own store in Uniontown, PA.

This occurred in August 1967. The sandwich was an instant hit to later become McDonald's Flagship product - just one year later! McDonald's now sells 550 million Big Mac's a year in the United States alone.

Al-Paslow > Once inside the beautiful glass encased play room, you may climb a giant tree that stretches to the top of the ceiling inside the building. A list of rules & regulations is posted.

Al-Paslow > "The Big Mac Daddy". Bust of the inventor of the Big Mac -Jim Deligatti and his favorite sandwich. At the time Jim invented the Big Mac, Macdonald's had only a single smaller hamburger that sold for just 15 cents. (Later, the Big Mac sold for 45 cents at the time of inception.)

Jim changed all that in 1967 by introducing the Big Mac.

Al-Paslow > Saftey is the concern - Here is the side door to the childrens play room, which is always locked, unless there is an emergency. Pretty much one needs to enter the main store to access the play room. You must exit the main store to leave the building.
