Allegheny Observatory, Open House Sept 29, 2006 Dave Smith's Photos
The University of Pittsburgh holds an open house every year at its Allegheny Observatory located in Pittsburgh's Riverview Park every fall.

http://www.3ap.org Helps out by setting up some of their telescopes outside for the guest to look through while waiting for their tour time to begin. Other members serve as guides inside along with some of the observatory staff and astronomers. This year was not very clear but people did get to see the Moon and some double stars and clusters. After the guest leave their is food for all and a chance to see some old friends. And again I would like to thank Al Paslow for letting me post these pictures. Dave Smith

Ken Kobus tells visitors about the clock room. Before standard time,Allagheny Observatory would sell time to the railroads. Ken is an AAAP member and author of several books about railroads and time. He was also the chairman of the committee that restored the AAAP's 11" Breshear refractor telescope.
